Ummm i'm really not sure what to think...

These posters went up this week in Crown Heights. Now i understand the tznius issue Lubavitchers are having, but with all that said is this the best approach. I felt it was so inappropriate, and really if i didn't dress tznius for say would i then read this poster and say " oh wow now i'm going to wear longer skirts". There is something so much deeper going on with our Shluchas so much more than this. Come on N'shai Chabad get it together. I thought this reader comment on crown heights info really summed it up. Click on the image to see the full poster. What do you think??

who put these signs up? who approved them the rabonim?since when is this a chasidishe approach? you are quoting the Rebbe, Reb ZS Dworkin, and the torah. how about checking with them if this is the proper approach. the Rebbe gave very specific directive of how to deal with this issue, y dont we just follow that. people dont need to live in ch for this type of life. there r other sects of Judaism and neighborhoods for ppl to go and abide by these type of signs. and y not tell the men not to touch their beards, and not to where tight fitting clothing etc. this is so gehtto like, and klein keppeldik. it does not deal with the core issue. we need mashpiem, we need role models! there needs to be ppl we can look up to and speak to, and that have knowledge and inspiration to speak to us. speak to the woman and girls, inspire them. encourage the men to ensure this as u say “ with soft words, and yet with determination”. this is humiliating, telling ppl in the street for all practical purposes to put on stockings!? how do u think that will work? what about the outsiders that see these signs? how do u think they will feel? well the same way they feel about coming to any closed off frum neighborhood like, new square. so it wont do much for nishei ubnos chabad and it wont help bring others closer to chabad. what is the goal? this is so ugly!v

There are all kinds of ways to reach out to people, and believe it or not the "Fire and Brinstone" approach is one of them. Whether this campaign will have any success or not, is another story.

There is a big problem I see in Israel, with very tight clothing and mini skirts, and sheitels past the shoulders. If this were women and couples new a Torah lifestyle, and doing the best they can, they patience and tolerance are dictated.

But it's what Israelis like to call "American Haredim," and others who want to show off their wives, or whose wives are vain and feel the need to keep up with the neighbors' fashion sense. There are both kinds of couples.

Hinuch is a big part of the problem, and silence about it is the other.

I hear what you are saying. But my point is the " Fire and Brimstone" approach is not the Chasidic approach. For lack of better words we are believers of positive reinforcement. I believe this is the exact opposite of that and not what the Rebbe would of wanted. It's just not our way. Thank you for your comment. By the way I consider myself very tznius. I never leave home without a sheitel. I wear clothing that fits properly and my skirts are ALWAYS past my knees even when sitting, but my sheitel is past my shoulders. That is how my hair has always been. Just an FYI

That's certainly why I would agree why this was, at the very least, surprising. I hope you post more on this, if you find out more about why this was done.

For sure, I assumed this was directed toward FFB's. On the other hand, perhaps there are highly motivated BT's who would be receptive to this.

BTW, I just assumed this was posted by someone who dresses tzanu'ah and didn't have a problem with tzniu'th, just questioning the poster's approach.

When I saw the sign's heading "Husbands ... Wives ... Daughters" I was really impressed. "Finally," I thought, someone's going to address tznius as modesty and humility and not as a set of clothing specifications aimed at women. No such luck, it's all about how husbands have to yell at their womenfolk for wearing stockings that aren't dark enough.

What is your source for the claim that the way of Chassidus is never to express rebuke? I find this claim very hard to accept, and contradictory to the sources I've seen.

Obviously, there is a difference between those who know nothing and those who were raised frum; far more is expected of the latter.

You’re a preschool teacher and a parent, right? I don’t see why this idea should be so hard for you to grasp. Granted, it is not the Chassidic approach in general, but there are exceptions to a rule. Sometimes one needs to balance kindness with strictness, to “put one’s foot down” and say “this will not be tolerated.” The current situation in CH is sadly such a case. May Hashem help.
